A while ago, I was browsing a second-hand online store and stumbled upon a brand new smart speaker, the Edifier Speakers, model MA1, for under $3 with free shipping.
According to the seller, the price was so low because the app wasn’t working, rendering it “semi-disabled.”
But it still had an AUX jack for wired use, so I figured wired Edifier Speakers for under $3 wouldn’t be a bad deal.
So I decisively placed an order on the 26th and received it the evening of the 28th. It was a brand new, unopened set, including the speaker, a 3.5mm AUX cable, a MicroUSB charging cable, and a lanyard.
I’ve been using it for two days now, and the sound quality is better than I expected.
I tested the Edifier Sperkers with a few classic songs, such as “Night and Day,” “Hotel California,” and “Tetsujin.”
I found Edifier’s technology quite good. The speaker didn’t break up at maximum volume, and the bass was quite powerful.
It is great to be able to buy a speaker with such sound quality at this price. It is also a smart speaker that allows you to listen to endless music without having to download and upload it manually.
During use, you can discover many old songs whose names you can’t remember, but you can still find them through your favorite songs and bring back old memories. Compared with the systems of other speakers, you will find that Edifier Speakers MA1 will be much better.
According to verification, the Edifier Speakers MA1 was launched in September 2015, with a global launch price of $45. It actually includes a Kingston 4GB memory card.
I checked the manual and found that it supports four audio source modes: the Ali Xiaozhi app, wireless playback on the same network, direct wireless playback, and AUX playback. Ali Xiaozhi (including the subsequent Ali Smart) has been discontinued, but the other three audio source modes are still functional.
My initial thought was that $3 for a wired speaker wouldn’t be a bad deal. In actual testing, I simply connected the included AUX (3.5mm dual-port) cable to a phone, tablet, or computer, and it can be used directly as a wired speaker.
It also has a built-in battery, allowing for unplugged use, though the capacity and battery life are unknown.
The key point is that the sound quality of this little gadget is truly excellent. Even at maximum volume, the sound doesn’t break up, and male vocals are very pleasant to listen to, with a rich and powerful sound, surpassing other portable speakers of the same size.
According to verification, Edifier Speakers MA1 uses two 1.75-inch aluminum-cone full-range speakers, each with a power output of 4.5W, and a rear low-frequency radiator.
The back of the box boasts “Highest acoustic configuration in its class, delivering up to 93dB near-field sound pressure level,” and the actual listening experience is indeed quite good.
This gadget is made of solid materials and weighs 12.5 oz.
For both wireless playback and direct wireless playback, both utilize the speaker’s built-in WiFi function to connect, then use the player’s DLNA (Android)/AirPlay (Apple) functionality, selecting the MA1 speaker as the audio source. This wireless transmission provides better sound quality than Bluetooth.
Because the Edifier Speakers MA1 has a built-in hotspot, it can also function as a “WiFi signal amplifier,” supporting up to eight connected devices, as stated in the manual.
What’s better than Bluetooth is that this speaker can automatically download music, automatically predict your favorite tracks, and play them independently, completely independent of your phone. You can also switch between five tracks.
Both Bluetooth and DLNA require a phone to stream music, and they can’t be used without an app.
Speaking of portability, the Edifier Speakers MA1 will store your latest 200 songs, eliminating the need for a phone to stream them, while Bluetooth requires a phone.
Given the excellent sound quality, I personally think it’s a good deal if you’re looking for a 90% discount (less than $5) on the original price. You can decide for yourself.
This price truly exceeded my expectations. If you have elderly family members looking to improve their quality of life, this is a great choice.
Many digital products today are difficult to operate, and many elderly people don’t know how to use them. Some even require a TF card reader for transfer, which is obviously impractical for them at their age.
The Edifier Speakers MA1 is relatively user-friendly for seniors, and at only 10% of its original price, it’s a great value.
The price isn’t high, so it’s worth a try.
