Nowadays, remaking games into movies seems to be a trend, as if popular IPs can’t assert their status without a film.

This applies to familiar franchises like “Mario,” “Sonic,” “Minecraft,” “Resident Evil,” “Mortal Kombat,” “Need for Speed,” “Uncharted,” and “World of Warcraft.” Even “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” is intensively casting and preparing for its release.

In fact, the most anxious thing over the years should be Street Fighter! None of the live-action movies authorized by CAPCOM can get high scores. “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” and “Street Fighter: The Live-Action Version of Jean-Claude Van Damme” are like this. They are not as good as the web drama “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” a few years ago. Even “Super School Fighter” has a higher reputation than these two Capcom-authorized games.

With Street Fighter 6 now so popular, Capcom has finally given up on the idea and decided to take another gamble, licensing another live-action Street Fighter film.

The casting also shows they’ve really put their heart into it this time.

Legendary Pictures acquired the film and television rights to the Street Fighter series back in 2023. After years of preparation, news has finally arrived.

This new film is being jointly developed and produced by Capcom and Legendary Pictures, with Sony distributing it. Hopefully, the characters, plot, and action sequences from the games will be faithfully reproduced!

After all, this is a Super Street Fighter 2 screen, so how could there be so many women in it? So, who do these characters correspond to?

Bison is played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson

Unsurprisingly, the actors everyone’s most excited about are the main characters: Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Cammy!

For European and Asian players, Ryu is the undisputed main character, while Chun-Li is the most popular. However, for Western players, the sentiment is slightly different. Guile is the most popular character, based on Lundgren, and best fits the tough guy profile.

The two main characters, Long and Chun-Li, required considerable effort from the makeup artists. Asian audiences wanted a voluptuous, sexy Chun-Li, while Westerners preferred a figure that “needed protection.”

Chun-Li’s actress, Kalina Liang, is Canadian, and while her appearance might seem fine, could her completely Western-style persona capture the appeal of Asian audiences?

The Chun-Li of Street Fighter VI is no longer the delicate, girly Chun-Li of her early days.
